Let’s have a trip to little Paris

Student’s life in the Pedagogical University is not only about hard work during the week days, but it’s also about exploring historical places of our ancient city and opening new facts about places we pass every day. The freshmen of the Faculty of Foreign Languages gathered to get a portion of excitement and knowledge on Thursday, 12. Let’s have a trip around our little Paris, as our witty guide says.

The trip starts from amazing historical building - Osmerkin memorial museum that preserves more than 700 works of art.  It is symbolic that we started our excursion from this place, not far from the districts of Balka and Kushchevka. Then our wise guide told us, that these areas were always hostile and still fight for the Bianca river. Then we walked along Dvortsova Street and passed the ancient buildings, that our city is endowed with. The guide drew attention to the quality of the brick, which was used in the times of the USSR. It is of superior quality.

Did you know that our city is almost the only one of those where Lenina and Karl Marx intersect symbolically? Coincidence? I do not think so.  Kovalevka district was settled with working class, and in particular, blacksmiths. Carabinerna Street is named after the Carabinieri Russian regiments and, surprisingly, was not renamed. One more interesting fact: Shevchenko street where our university is located was called Osvityanskya street, because there are educational institutions on it. The guide led us to the Goldenberg Hospital which is practically the down town. The architecture of the building in the Moorish style was built according to the project of Y.Pauchenko at the expense of I. Goldenberg. How can we pass our regional museum without saying any word? It is worth mentioning, that it was built about a century ago in the Baroque style.

Talking about the styles of buildings of our city, so it is generally a symbiosis of incompatible styles such as Baroque, Modern, Eclectic and even Russian style.

The city impresses, as it was noted by our guide, by its polyconfessionality: Christian churches, a synagogue, a Catholic church and even a mosque.

Finally, we walked along Dvortsova street and reached the heart of our city - Kropivnitsky Music Drama Theatre, the first Ukrainian professional theatre.

This trip gave us an opportunity to get acquainted with such impressive past of our city and open our eyes to things that we did not notice. Such a tour has instilled pride in our hearts and we encourage students to learn the history of our homeland and pass it to our students, because we are the would-be teachers.
