To broaden the views
And again it is spring, high time we met scholars of philology from all over the world at Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University.
The 6th international conference on the topic “The Language and the World” was held on the 29th -30th of March. It was devoted to scientific researches in the field of philology, among them were “The Portrayal of Aspects of English University Life in Comic Fiction with Special Reference to the Work of David Lodge and Tom Sharpe”, “Literary Dimension of Metapoetic Studies” and others.
It was useful for students of the Foreign Languages Department and for us, magistrates, in particular, to visit the conference and broaden our scientific views.
The previous week was extremely busy for the teaching staff and students because of different lectures and workshops conducted by foreign linguists. We cannot help mentioning such scholars as Dr. Colin Brock, professor of Oxford University and Carol Haddaway, Senior English Language Fellow, U.S. Department of State.
Dr. Colin Brock delivered a few lectures concerning historical issues and steps of improving the educational system of England. The most important of them was the Educational Act accepted in 1944 and guaranteed free studies for all university entrants. Workshops carried out by Carol Haddaway aimed at presenting new teaching aspects and touched upon the English vocabulary, a lesson structure, reading and speaking.
It was a fabulous opportunity for us to check our English knowledge and improve our skills in interpreting while visiting Kirovograd schools with Dr. Colin Brock and in teaching. We also got an incredible experience while analyzing and comparing the systems of education in Ukraine, Great Britain and the United States of America.
