During March 2-6, 2016, five students from Kirovohrad Volodymyr Vynnychenko State Pedagogical University successfully participated in the German-Polish-Ukrainian seminar “One million and counting: reality check for German "Willkommenskultur" in light of increased influx of refugees” which was held in a tiny town, full of cosiness and picturesque views, Bad Liebenzell of the land of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

It is difficult to highlight some day out of five spent there to say it was marvelous and unforgettable, full of experience and knowledge as absolutely every single day brought us lots of unique information which we managed not only to cover during workshops discussing the German asylum policy, procedures and social reactions, but to feel it with a sight and touch.

The first thing all of us will remember for a long time was visiting the refugee shelter where up to 250 Syrian, Iraqi and other refugees live waiting for the most important letter in their life which says if the person has got a refugee status or not. Most of them are the victims of war and even don't want to remember frightening and hazardous life in homeland. These people came through prosecution, threats and fears. But how strong they are! They are open for meeting new people, studying something new. Most of them are ready to learn a new language, find new accommodation, and start a new and calm life. We should follow their example how to stay strong, patient and never give up.

Next we watched a presentation packed with interesting and sometimes frightening information. It was difficult for us to realize that only in 2015 around a half million people were seeking for asylum in Germany! The presentation also highlighted Germans’ attitude towards the refugees. While half of those who participated in poll said that refugees can be good for Germany around thirty percent of people had an opposite idea about them. People who support right-wing parties usually burn refugee shelters or go on anti-refugee strikes. So we came to the conclusion that one of the fundamental thing about refugee problem was misunderstanding between them and locals.

This day we also had a meeting with Idris Taha, a refugee from Afghanistan who told us his story which made us give the creeps. His family had to sell their accommodation to pay the kidnappers and save their child's life. They managed to leave the country but their paths split apart and Idris has never seen his family since that time. It is difficult for him to remember being a 16-year old child left alone in the whole world. He has been living in Germany for 6 years for now. He works for Red Cross and helps other refugees to turn over the black page of their life book and start a new one full of colours and happiness and still has a hope to see his family.

During our second day of the seminar we had a great opportunity to be witnesses of a real court proceeding in Stuttgart where the Judge Professor Jan Bergmann had a reconsideration of the case of a Roma family who was rejected in the refugee status. Later we had a private talk with the Judge who shared with us his ideas concerning the case; he also explained his actions and doubts during the hearing as well as his decision. He had to be impartial of course but even he finds it difficult to suppress emotion.

On the third day we tried to make our own plans on how to change the refugee system in Germany. We were full of ambitions and ready to share our ideas. We had three groups where were representatives of each country so it was interesting to work in such groups where people think differently. We had an opportunity to share own experience and ideas and implement them into project. One of the ideas that was presented and well developed in all three presentations was refugees’ integration into the society. Only by means of integration we can fight misunderstanding and thus fight social anxiety in Germany. All three projects were extensively elaborated and we were happy to do such a good job.

These seminar days flashed by, but still they last in our minds and hearts. Now we know how important it is to help each other and those in need. Only tolerance makes us real people! We have become more skillful in the sphere of refugee policy, worked out interesting ways of its improving and tried to make this world a better place to live in. We are very glad to have had such invaluable experience and have met many wonderful people.

В суботу, 27 лютого, відбулися завершальні етапи National Public Speaking Competition, у яких я мала честь брати участь. Насправді це була велика подія для усіх учасників, адже вирішувалося, хто з нас поїде в Лондон захищати інтереси України у міжнародному змаганні мовців. Оскільки я брала участь у заході такого масштабу вперше, для мене ця маленька подорож була наповнена великими хвилюваннями. Тим не менш, все пройшло дуже гарно.

У п’ятницю, після того, як ми заселилися в готель, ми мали змогу оглянути місце, де мали наступного дня представляти свої промови. В America House нас зустріли деякими заходами безпеки, що спочатку дещо налякало. Але чим далі ми заходили і чим більше пізнавали його, тим більше відчували на собі цю непідробну атмосферу дружньої справжньої Америки. Нас зустрічали люди з посмішками і раді допомогти. Отже, в готель ми поверталися переповнені емоціями і новими приємними враженнями.

Наступний ранок почався з паніки. Зібравшись з думками і не знаючи, чого очікувати, ми пішли у напрямку America House. Коли все почалося, ми зрозуміли, наскільки різноманітним може бути сприйняття однієї теми. Усі учасники були сильними і піднесли свої промови досить достойно. Участь брали студенти та школярі з різноманітних міст. Під час перерви я особисто мала змогу познайомитись і поспілкуватися з дівчатами зі Львова. Зрозуміла річ, що усі хвилювались, деякі навіть занадто, але загалом, все пройшло на високому рівні. Окрему увагу хотілося б приділити суддям, яким безперечно було складно вибирати поміж усіх достатньо достойних конкурсантів, але які, в той же час, намагались допомогти своїми запитаннями вийти на потрібний рівень.

Я дуже вдячна організаторам за таку чудову можливість проявити себе, подивитись на виступи інших, а головне – отримати величезний досвід у публічному мовленні англійською мовою.

On the 27th February, 2016 the National Public Speaking Competition 2016 took place in the America House in Kyiv, Ukraine. The participants were the representatives of different oblasts of Ukraine: Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Rivne, Chernihiv.

The National Public Speaking Competition is the program which helps young people to acquire skills of public speaking, focus on learning English and meet new people at the same time. The winner of the National Public Speaking Competition goes to London to represent Ukraine in the International Public Speaking Competition.
The National Public Speaking Competition includes two stages: semi-final (delivering prepared speeches) and final (delivering impromptu speeches). All the semi-finalists express their ideas and interpretations on the topic given. This year the topic was “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any”. All the shared ideas were exclusive and up-to-date. The finalists shared their points of view on the randomly chosen topics. All the opinions were innovative.

The winners were chosen by the qualified Judges. They were Seneca Ryan (Senior English Language Fellow, US Embassy), Charles Bonds (Fulbright Scholar from Indiana University, Bloomington), Victor Markovich (Defence and Threat Reduction Office, US Embassy), Nadiya Ivanenko (Associate Professor, Germanic Languages Department Kirovograd State Pedagogical University), Larysa Yarova (Associate Professor, Translation and General Linguistics Department Kirovograd State Pedagogical University).
The Question Team’s task was to ask question on obscure or vague points in the speeches. The audience also listened carefully and inquired the speakers on the topic or on their attitude on some additional information.

The atmosphere was rather relaxed despite the tensity which the participants experienced. All the present people were active listeners and paid attention to all the speakers equally, so it gave the feeling of confidence and responsibility for the uttered ideas. The speeches of all the participants inspired to deliver your own thoughts, to reveal some personal opinion and respond to some of the mentioned views. Moreover, it was impressive to meet so many new and exceptional people with such exclusive thoughts.
However, only one person was to be chosen to represent Ukraine at the International Public Speaking Competition in London, UK. The judging committee resolved Anna Tsymbalist to deserve to represent Ukraine. The runner up is Kateryna Ilchenko, and the audience choice is Iryna Manzholenko.

17 листопада у актовій залі університету відбувся підсумковий концерт “Вернісажу талантів”, у якому взяли участь студенти перших курсів.

Безсумнівно, педагогічний університет має таланти, та і не аби які — це і щирі пісні, і запальні танці, драйвовий реп, феєричні шоу та соціальні вистави, які змушують задуматися!

Концерт розпочався запальним танцем вихованців народного ансамблю бального танцю “Конвалія”, Алдошиної Катерини та Дорошенко Владислава. Після такого палкого початку, ректор університету Семенюк Олег Анатолійович та керівник ансамблю бального танцю “Конвалія” Спінул Ігор Василійович нагороджували студентів за досягнення: Орлову Інгу та Шевченко Анастасію за зайняте 2 місце у змаганнях по волейболу, найкращі гуртожитки університету (ними стали 1, 3 та 4 гуртожитки) та профспілкові комітети за активну участь у житті університету.

Після нагородження, свій танцювальний талант показували студенти фізико-математичного факультету, які своїм виступом позитивно зарядили увесь зал. Студентка факультету філології та журналістики заспівала ніжну, зворушливу пісню. Декан факультету Кричун Людмила Петрівна у своїй промові сказала дуже актуальні та важливі слова: “Будьте вічними студентами морально, а не фізично”.

Приголомшили усіх студенти факультету фізичного виховання, які у своєму номері продемонстрували важливість спорту в житті. Показала свій співочий талант і студентка факультету історії та права. Змусили задуматися глядачів студенти 12 групи природничо-географічного факультету, які талановито та сміливо відтворили проблеми сучасності. Причарував своїм позитивним танцем мистецький факультет. А от факультет педагогіки та психології свій талант розкрили з усією серйозністю: під гаслом “Змінивши себе, ти зміниш світ” вони розповіли без слів про проблему самотності. Декан факультету Рацул Анатолій Борисович запевнив, що на факультеті немає місця самотності! А на завершення зала “вибухнула” від емоцій, які викликав студент іноземних мов Денис Сироткін своєю реп-композицією! А завершив концерт виступ талановитого чоловічого гурту “Ді-войс” .

Сподіваємось, що студенти нашого університету будуть надалі тільки розвиватися і не зупинятися на досягнутому!

Хеллоуїн ‒ одне з небагатьох свят, коли на вулиці міста виходять люди в незвичному вбранні і лякають один одного. Згідно із давніми віруваннями, в цей день відкривалася межа між світом живих і мертвих. Люди надавали цьому звичаю великого значення, аби не стати жертвою тіней мертвих, вони виряджалися у звірині шкури, гасили вогнища у своїх домівках і усім своїм виглядом намагалися відлякати привидів.

Свято, подібне Хеллоуїну, існувало і на Русі у стародавніх слов’ян. Воно називалося Навій День (від старослов’янського «навь» – мертвець, небіжчик) або Проводи. Ще зовсім недавно це свято відзначалося лише в США, проте тепер воно набуває все більшої популярності у Європі. Не стала винятком і Україна.

У п’ятницю, 30 жовтня, студенти факультету іноземних мов також долучилися до святкування Хеллоуіну. Заздалегідь продумавши організаційні моменти заходу, вони гарно підготувалися, аби святкування цього дійства залишилося надовго у їхній пам’яті.

Дійство проходило на 7 поверсі. Казковий кролик з твору Л. Керрола «Аліса в задзеркаллі», пригощав студентів солодощами та бажав щасливого Хеллоуїну. Коридори та аудиторії були прикрашені відповідними атрибутами – плакатами, гарбузами, свічками тощо. Студенти створили атмосферу справжнього Хеллоуїну.
